Linda Mar

 

Tree-lined streets and one of the state’s most renowned surfing beaches are just a few of the defining facets of Linda Mar, Pacifica’s largest neighborhood. Ever-sunny, Linda Mar is bordered on its western edge by Pacifica State Beach and pressed against the beautiful San Pedro Valley Park along its eastern border. 

 

Historic and colorful, Linda Mar is home to San Mateo County’s oldest estate, an 1846 adobe that was once the residence of former San Francisco Mayor Don Francisco Sanchez. While there are many historic homes within Linda Mar, and while the architectural styles span the century, most local housings were developed in the 1950s and 1960s as tract subdivisions. Whether you’re looking for a beachy, mid-century ranch or a coastal bungalow in a serene neighborhood, Linda Mar has you covered.

Linda Mar has many parks, playgrounds, and natural landscapes to enjoy and is consequently a great location for families. With the beach just steps away from most developments, the neighborhood is also ideal for retirees or beach-life enthusiasts.

Heading inland from the beach and across State Route 1, residents will encounter the Linda Mar Shopping Center right off Linda Mar Boulevard. A development with mixed-use establishments, this shopping center has everything one might need to cater to their day-to-day needs. 

 

Here, you’ll find fitness facilities like Orangetheory, grocery stores such as Safeway, an Ace Hardware store, and a copious amount of dining establishments. This commercial district boasts several sporting goods stores, including NorCal Surf Shop and Traveler Surf Club. The latter offers beachgoers a membership option that includes amenities like hot showers and saunas, storage, merchandise discounts, and after-hours access. 

 

Embodying Pacifica’s chill surf and skate culture, Soul Grind Coffee Roasters is a hip, must-try shop that produces gourmet artisanal coffees. Their beachfront cafe is a community staple and the ideal place to get caffeinated before hitting the waves. Meet up with friends while you sip on one of their signature hand-crafted drinks, like the Cliffside latte, which comes swirled with vanilla and caramel flavors.

It’s impossible to live in or visit Linda Mar without visiting the Pacifica State Beach, even if it’s simply to soak in the cheerful sunlight and rest in the soft sand. Crescent-shaped and popular with both athletes and families, this beach is the most heavily trafficked and well-loved in the city. 

 

Pressed into gorgeous hills, Frontierland Park is a favorite for families due to its generous swaths of open green space, playground areas, and picnic locations. The eastern border of Linda Mar is tucked against the entry of the San Pedro Valley Park, where over 1,000 acres of Coastal Mountain splendor await. Miles of trails are open to hikers, bikers, and equestrians, all of whom are treated to majestic views of the coast. Additionally, hikers can ascend the steep slope of the Pedro Mountain Road Trail, which begins at the end of Higgins Way.
